The Alden children's adventures on the road and in the woods are romanticized quite a bit. If the author had written a realistic depiction of four orphans living in a boxcar, the book would be a lot more depressing (and, therefore, more of a family drama or a tragedy). The book is the first volume in an epic series of The Boxcar Children.   I had a reading unit on The Boxcar Children #1. We used many of the receipes in class, the bread in the bag was very successful. I had the children bring as many ingredients as possible. We did as much as possible in class. The book was very well laid out. The pictures that matched the book 5/5(1).

Gertrude Chandler Warner is the creator of The Boxcar Children series, authoring the first nineteen books. Largely self-taught, Shane Clester has been a professional illustrator since He began working in comics and storyboards before transitioning to his true passion—children’s books. Shane lives in Florida with his wife and two children.4/4(25). She wrote the first Boxcar book in , while home recuperating from an illness, but the version most people are familiar with was originally published in The Alden children became so popular that she wrote 19 adventures about them including Surprise Island, Mystery Ranch, and Snowbound Mystery.4/5(46).

A delightful addition for fans of the Boxcar Children books and cooking. My 8-yr-old granddaughter - devotee of Rachel Ray and avid reader - loves it, as do I. My only criticism is that the book is standard paper-back construction, and I would have preferred a sturdier paper and binding - more like a traditional cookbook/5.

From the age of five, she dreamed of becoming an author. She wrote stories for her Grandfather Carpenter, and each Christmas she gave him one of these stories as a gift. Today, Ms. Warner is best remembered as the author of The Boxcar Children Mysteries/5(41).

The clan even has their own cookbook, The Boxcar Children Cookbook, by Diane Blain, featuring such treats as secret code buns, hobo stew, and tree house chocolate pudding, all inspired by passages from the books.

Certainly the volume is in keeping with the spirit of the series—Warner's very first description of the children has them standing in front of a bakery, hungrily looking inside. The boxcar children books were some of my favorite books as a child. I really enjoyed reading this one again.

I wish the others were on hear, as well as the old Dan Frontier books. 20, Views. 29 Favorites. 2 Reviews. DOWNLOAD OPTIONS download 1 file.
